FAR OFF THINGS

I picked up this book because I had no alternative, to say the truth I don't like reading facts. My first impression on the book titled FAR OFF THINGS by Dr.R.L. Spittel was a little bit boring. But as reading Wild Ceylon, describing in particular the lives of the present day Veddas, by R.L. Spittel. With illustrations from photographs by the author ...progressed beyond the first page my conclusions were proved wrong. This is a book which presents some interesting facts about colonial Ceylon in its true form. Here we can immerse ourselves in the history, legends, jungle lore, Vedda aborigines and people and their traditionsErotic Sri Lanka: Buxom Native Gods (Allborough Folklore & Sex) and some fascinating facts about some seemingly unimportant places, creature and etc;

The writer is an ardent lover of Ceylon, which is clearly portraited from the following excerpts....

                     let others belaud the ways of the west
                        or homeland or township,wherever it be
                    however mighty,however blest-
                                                           lanka my island, you are all to me..

The author is well known for his various expeditions in the quest of searching the ways of the Vedda. In this book also he delves into various aspects of  this unique native society.Wild Ceylon, describing in particular the lives of the present day Veddas, by R.L. Spittel. With illustrations from photographs by the author ...Savage Sanctuary If u want to get an idea of the contemporary ceylon of that time this book would certainlr exceed your expectations.
